The Role Of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry for
Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Patients

Background
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is a head and neck malignant tumor which high in prevalence and it is the fourth grade of all malignancy in human being after cervix cancer, breast cancer and skin tumor. Studies said that some of mental disorder were often seen in cancer patient such as anxiety, depression, maladjustment disorder, psychotic and delirium. In general mental disorder prevalence in cancer patient is around 14-38%. The purpose of this study is to reveal the prevalence of mental disorder in nasopharyngeal carcinoma who came to the ENT Oncology Clinic, Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital.

Methode
This is a cross sectional study with consecutive sampling. The study was conducted in October 2007 until March 2008. We were using MINI ICD-10 instrument to categorized the mental disorder in nasopharyngeal cancer pasients.

Result
One hundred and seven patients completed the study. There were 86 patients (80,4%) suffered from mental disorder. Using MINI ICD-10 we founded that 34,9% patients suffered from depression, 24,4% patients suffered from generalized anxiety disorder, 22,1% suffered from depression with co-morbid with other mental disorder.

Conclusion
This study said that There were 86 patients (80,4%) suffered from mental disorder. Number height occurence of mental disorder in patient of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, hence suggested to do psychiatry liaison consultation early on patient with nasopharyngeal carcinoma to obtain better quality of life.
